While he was hiking in the region around Oslo (Norway), Mad Nordsveen, a photographer, had the unique chance to see a really rare white baby reindeer. It appeared to him just like if it was coming out of a whimsical Christmas tale. The pictures can’t be more enchanting.
The 24-years old photographer said in an interview: “I was walking in the mountains looking for nice landscapes for my travel photography when out of nowhere I saw this wonderful little creature.”
He also said that even if the baby reindeer could barely be distinguished from the wintery background, he didn’t try to hide or anything when the photographer got closer. The animal even ‘posed’ for his pictures, according to Mad.
The young Nordsveen didn’t only get some picture from this special encounter. It was an experience he will ever forget; “He came very close to me and we looked at each other straight in the eyes. After some minutes the mother of the baby reindeer came out of trees just behind. It walked around for some minutes before running back to its mother. It was very magical and a fairy tale moment.”
The rare white reindeer have an unique genetic mutation that strips their fur of pigment which allow them to turn into their surroundings that turn out to be white like the snow. They are not like albinos because they still have dark pigmentation in their eyes and antlers.
