There’s an African American model known as the “Queen of The Dark” and she’s on a mission to break barriers and dismiss misconceptions that darker skin is not beautiful.
24 year old Nyakim Gatweck is of South Sudanese descent and aside from being a fashion icon, she is also an inspiration to many people out there who have been bullied because of their skin color.
“My chocolate is elegant. So is what I represent… A nation of warriors”
She captioned on one of her many Instagram photos, which commonly exceed 10,000 likes for their beauty and boldness.
She recently detailed her experience while driving with an Uber driver, where he suggested she look at ‘bleaching’ her skin.
“You won’t believe the kind of questions I get and the kind of looks I get for having this skin.”
The model not only advocates for better diversity in fashion, but also stands for black rights worldwide, being dubbed “Queen of Darkness”, quite a happily accepted title.
“Black is bold, black is beautiful, black is gold… Don’t let American standards damage your African soul.”
Something to remember – love the skin you have, it’s yours and it’s beautiful.
